Cracked glass, image still fine
The panel works but the top layer is broken. On a MacBook the glass and panel are one bonded unit, so this is still a display assembly job.
Lines plus a crack together
What the photo above shows — impact damage that took out both the glass and the panel rows. The whole assembly gets replaced, and it comes out looking factory-new.
Vertical or horizontal lines
Usually the display cable or the panel's driver row. We check the cable first — it is the cheaper outcome and worth ruling out.
Black screen but the machine is running
Fan spins, keyboard backlight on, no image. Could be the panel, the display cable, or the board's display circuit. Diagnosis decides which.
Dark patches or blotches
Pressure damage or backlight failure. Often from something pressing on the closed lid in a bag.
Flickers when you move the lid
The classic sign of a chafed display cable at the hinge, which is a different repair from the panel itself.

Separate cable faults from panel faults
Lines and flicker are often cable, not panel. We test before quoting, because the two repairs are not the same job.

Check the board's display circuit
A black screen can come from the board, not the display. We confirm the board is driving the panel before recommending a panel.

Match the exact assembly
Display assemblies differ by A-number and sometimes by EMC within the same model name. We match on the code, not the marketing name.

Replace and check the full surface
Fitted, then inspected across the whole panel for dead pixels, uniform backlight, True Tone behaviour and correct hinge tension.

The display is the single most expensive part of a MacBook, so it is worth getting diagnosed properly — sometimes lines turn out to be a cable, which is a much smaller job.

Can you just replace the glass and keep the panel?+
On a MacBook, no. Unlike some phone screens, the MacBook display is a bonded assembly — the glass is not a separate serviceable layer. Anyone offering glass-only on a MacBook is doing something we would not warranty.
Will the new display look the same?+
We fit original-grade display assemblies, and they carry a 90-day warranty. When we quote we tell you the grade we are fitting.
Lines appeared with no drop at all — how?+
Display cables run across the hinge and flex every time you open the lid. On some models they chafe over years. No drop needed.
Will I lose my data?+
No, a display job does not touch storage. Bring a backup anyway as a matter of habit.
